My primary area of research focuses on adaptive reuse by examining the social and cultural values embedded within ordinary buildings. By starting each design project with archeological and historical research, I have attempted to combine historical research with design practice. Another research interest is the search for the possibility of an alternative architectural practice, highlighting the various activities by architects that do not include construction in the traditional sense but rather interdisciplinary cultural and political activities through the tools of architecture. My exhibition and performance at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul was an example of a possible path for architects for engaging with the broader public through theater and performance. The last area of my research is art-architecture collaboration. My collaboration with artist Kim Beom in designing the Sangha Farm was an eight-year process that included a rural food hub, a working farm, and a modest hotel for visiting families.
