You might have had an experience of trying odeng (Korean fishcake) sold from a food cart while walking down the street. In this project, I’ve designed with a light touch, similar to the idea of casually enjoying odeng on your stroll.
 
In this exhibition, the aspect of freedom that I prioritized the most was the freedom of time. Hence, I set Dangsan Station, which is subject to many planned changes, as the site of my project. Dangsan Station is in charge of transfers in the western part of the metropolitan area. Despite its status as a hub of metropolitan transportation, the commercial place exist only along the main road, so the potential of the area is not fully utilized.
 
To turn Dangsan Station from merely a transfer point into a space where people actively engage, I focused on the experience of transfers and the concept of time while carrying out the project.
 
There are five bus stops near Dangsan Station, and it takes about five minutes and involves vertical movement to transfer between different modes of transportation. My project aimed to design a flexible space capable of containing these moments and activities.
 
In this flexible design, I first created a system that oversees the entire architecture to ensure that my initial intentions persist over time. I made sure that this system could provide a rational basis for including the activities involved in the transfer experience. I also wanted to create and capture movement and memories in the surrounding area through the transfer experience.
 
On top of this system, I went through a process of pondering what kind of program should be included, what area such a program should occupy within the system, and how it should be arranged. I also contemplated the operational aspects, ensuring that the design could be realistically implemented.
