박제되는 장면 이면에 숨겨진 공간은 어떤 모습일까?
우리는 지금껏 수많은 도구를 탄생시켰다. 그리고 도구는 다시 우리의 행동과 신체를 변화시켰다. 우리는 이제 어디서나 눈에 보이는 것들을 스마트폰의 카메라로 박제할 수 있으며, 동시에 SNS를 통해 사진을 실시간으로 공유할 수 있다. 이를 통해 사람들은 어떤 사진이 많은 반응을 이끌어낼 수 있는지, 그 새로운 미감을 습득하게 되었다. 그 중 인스타그램은 정사각형이라는 고유의 프레임을 통해 무엇보다 강력한 미감을 형성하였고, 우리가 도시를 보는 방법을 변화시켰다. 하나의 단편적인 이미지가 전체 공간을 대표하게 되는 인스타그램의 영향력은 사람들로 하여금 새로운 시각체계를 가지게 만들었다. 인스타그램을 통해 복제되는 공간들, 소위 ‘instagrammable’한 공간들은 맥락을 잃고 끊임없이 재생산되고, 도시공간은 그 정체성을 잃은 채 이미지로서 인식된다.
이미지로서의 도시경험은 마치 하나의 단면을 통해 공간 전체를 이해하는 것과 비슷하다. 우리는 이미지와 단면 그 이면에 숨겨진 가상성을 이끌어내 인스타그램에 대항하고자 한다. 얇고 긴 거대한 이 공간은 도시의 많은 레이어와 교차할 수 있는 서울숲과 한강공원을 잇는 보행가교를 대체한다. 얇지만 깊고 풍요로운 공간은 시각을 계속해서 비틀고, 이를 넘어 소리나 촉각 등을 활용해 주변의 도시공간을 끊임없이 맥락화하며 증폭된 경험을 선사한다. 이 공간은 사진이 찍히든, 찍히지 않든 관계 없이, 사진에서와 실제 공간의 경험이 완전히 달라 인스타그램에 개념적으로 대항한다.

How does the space hidden behind the instagram frame look like?
We have created numerous tools so far. And tools again changed our behavior and our bodies. We can now capture anything we see with our smartphone's camera, and share photos in real time through social media. Because of this, people have acquired a new aesthetic sense of which photos can bring out reactions from others. Among other social media, Instagram formed the most powerful aesthetic through its unique square frame, and consequently changed the way we see the city. The influence of Instagram, in which one fragmentary image represents the entire space, led people to acquire a new visual system. Spaces replicated through Instagram, which are so-called 'instagrammable' spaces, lose their context and are constantly reproduced, and urban spaces are perceived as images without their identity.
Urban experience as an image is similar to understanding the entire space through a single section. In this project, we try to oppose Instagram by bringing out the virtuality hidden behind the images and sections of the city. This large, thin and long architecture replaces the pedestrian bridge that connects Seoul Forest and Hangang Park, which already intersects many layers of the city. Thin but deep and rich space continuously twists the vision, and more, it constantly contextualizes the surrounding urban space using a sense of sound and touch, therefore providing an amplified experience of the city. This space, whether photographed or not, is conceptually a gesture to unfollow the way of seeing imposed by Instagram, with a completely different experience of the space than in the photograph.
