대림동 | Playground
‘Playground’ in Daelim-dong
서울 구로구 대림동은 대표적인 중국동포 밀집지역이며 내국인들의 선입견 속에 잠겨 있는 곳이다. 내국인들은 조선족, 중국 문화, 범죄 등을 떠올리며 이 곳의 발전을 위해 재개발이나 차이나타운 조성과 같은 계획을 생각한다. 하지만 이 곳이 중국 동포들만의 땅으로 남는 것이 미래에도 진실로 현재에 있는 사실일까? 과거의 대림동은 공단의 내국인 노동자들이 살고 있었던 서울의 대표적인 저소득층 주거지라는 역사를 가진다. 중국 동포들 또한 낮은 월세, 교통의 편리성과 같은 이유로 이 곳에 흘러들어온 것일 뿐이다. 그러나 변하지 않는 사실은 대림동이 언제나 이주민들의 땅이 될 것이라는 점이고 중국 동포들이 떠나도 언젠가 새로운 이주민이 이 곳에 정착할 것이다. 그렇다면 대림동과 이주민을 위한 건축은 어떤 모습일까? 이주민들은 기본적으로 연결관계 부족으로 인한 고립이라는 핸디캡을 가진다. 이를 위해 대림역 고가철교 하부 공간에 계층이나 인종과 같은 변수로 인한 차별 없이 누구나 즐길 수 있는 공간인 Playground를 제안한다. 사람들은 대림동의 Playground에 있는 미술관, 전시공간, 도서관, 놀이공간, 복합체육시설 등을 통해 부족한 대림동의 사회적 인프라를 충족하고 연결관계를 형성할 기회를 가진다. 두 지역 사이에서 장벽처럼 기능하던 콘크리트 기둥과 구조체, 시야가 차단되어 잠겨있는 고가하부 공간은 사람들이 즐기는 모습을 보여주는 하얀 도화지가 되어 다양한 색깔을 가진 프로그램들을 형성하며 고립된 양쪽 지역을 향해 연결선들을 뻗어나가서 사람들을 불러들일 것이다.
Daelim-dong, Seoul, is a representative area of ethnic Koreans in China and is locked in prejudice among Koreans. Koreans think of Daelim-dong as ethnic Koreans, Chinese culture, and crimes, and think of plans such as redevelopment and creation of Chinatown for the development of this place. But is it true that this place remains a land of only Chinese in the future? In the past, Daelim-dong has a history of being a representative residential area of low-income families in Seoul, where Korean workers from the industrial complex lived. Chinese also flowed into the area for reasons such as low rent and convenience of transportation. However, the unchanging fact is that Daelim-dong will always be the land of migrants, and even if Chinese leave, a new immigrant will settle here someday. Then what does future architecture of Daelim-dong look like? Migrants basically have a handicap of isolation due to lack of connectivity. To this end, we propose Playground, a space that anyone can enjoy without discrimination due to variables such as hierarchy or race. People have the opportunity to meet the social infrastructure of Daelim-dong and form connections through art galleries, exhibition spaces, libraries, play spaces, and complex sports facilities in Daelim-dong Playground. The high-rise space, which functions like a barrier between the two areas, will become a white drawing paper showing people enjoying themselves plus forming programs which have various colors, stretching out various connections to both isolated areas and attracting people.
