The New Form of Co-Prosperity: An Urban Animal Shelter

Most of the shelters for abandoned animals in South Korea are financially dependent on the government and its subsidiaries. In suburban areas, things are even worse. The facilities often suffer from a lack of proper management, leaving many areas without reliable animal shelters. Plus, animal shelters isolated from the society often bring about conflicts as they are easily branded as a detestable installation.

Although the sharp and continued rise in the number of households with companion animals over recent years has been followed by the increased number of animal-related facilities, most of the new constructions are like animal theme parks which heavily lean towards commerciality or marketability.

Among such current circumstances, I propose a new form of an animal shelter, where abandoned or stray animals are given care and chances to be adopted. It will be located in an urban area so that it can easily interact with people and the society. This can have a positive effect on how people think of abandoned animals and allow people to face a new appearance of co-prosperity in their daily lives.
