About Thomas Chanjoog Kim:

고려대학교 건축공학과를 졸업하고 스위스 연방공과대학에서 수학하였으며 미국 하버드대학에서 건축학 석사학위를 취득하였다. 서울의 한울 건축과 캠브리지의 Chan Krieger Associates, 그리고 보스톤의 KSWA에서 실무를 쌓았으며 귀국 후 현재까지 경희대 건축대학원의 설계전공 초빙 교수로 재직하면서 THE_SYSTEM LAB 의 대표로 활동하고 있다. 2006년에 제10회 이태리 베니스 비엔날레 한국 대표 건축가로 초청되었으며, 같은 해 중국 베이징 국제 건축 비엔날레에서는 주목받는 아시아 젊은 건축가 6인에 선정되기도 했다. 또한 2016년에 영국 건축잡지 월페이퍼가 선정한 ‘세계의 떠오르는 건축가 20인’에 선정되었다. 그의 작업들은 국내는 물론 Domus (Italy), Casa Mica (Spain), Abitare (Italy), Mark (Netherlands), Architectural Review (England)등의 국제적인 저널에도 다양하게 소개되고 있다. 대표작으로는 한남동 오피스, 현대어린이책미술관(MOKA), 하나은행 삼성동(PLACE 1), 울릉도 KOSMOS 리조트, 우란문화재단, 마곡 서울식물원 온실, JTBC 신사옥 등이 있다.

Upon graduating from Korea University with a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Chanjoong Kim studied at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH). In 2000, he received his master’s degree at the Harvard University. After working as a senior architect at Hanwool Architecture Company (Seoul, Korea), Chan Krieger Associates (Cambridge, USA), he is currently a visiting professor of Architecture Department at Kyunghee University while serving as a Principal in charge of THE_SYSTEM LAB. In 2006, Chanjoong Kim was invited to Venice Biennale as representative Architect of Korea. At the same year, he was nominated as one of the six emerging young Asian architects by Beijing International Architecture Biennale. He was also selected as one of the twenty emerging global architects by Wallpaper, UK Architecture Magazine. His works are mentioned in renowned press such as Domus (Italy), Casa Mica (Spain), Abitare (Italy), Mark (Netherlands), Architectural Review (England). Some of his major projects are following : Hannam-Dong Hands Office, Hyundai Moka, Hana Bank Place 1 Seoul, Ulleungdo-do Kosmos Resort, Wooran Foundation, Seoul Botanic Park, JTBC.
