Architecture and city of Seoul
서울은 천만 명의 사람이 모여 사는 공간이다. 건축과 도시로서의 서울은 그 안에 담긴 구성원들의 조직 방식을 덮고서는 이해할 수 없다. 이 강의는 한국이 집합적으로 작동하는 매커니즘을 드러내고 서울의 건축과 도시가 이를 어떻게 표현가고 있는지를 설명한다. 따라서 이 수업은 제한된 소수의 건축가에 의한 건물을 소개하지 않고 사회현상으로서 서울의 건축과 도시를 이해하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 서울에 담긴 건축과 도시의 해석을 통해 사회로서 서울이 작동하는 방법을 이해하는 것이 목적이라고도 할 수 있다.
서울은 14세기말 조선의 수도로 정해진 이래 현재에 이르기까지 우리나라의 수도로서, 건축문화의 중심적 역할을 수행하여왔다. 이 강의는 서울의 건축과 도시에 대한 역사적 이해를 바탕으로, 각 지역의 도시적 양상과 건축의 대응에 대한 공간적 이해를 목표로 한다. 강의의 진행은 주임 교수의 전체적인 계획과 소개 후에, 북촌과 용산, 성북동과 여의도, 잠실과 강남 등 핵심 지역을 건축학과의 참여 교수들이 분담하며, 강의와 현장 답사를 겸하여 학생들의 참여를 권장하는 형식을 갖는다. 이를 통하여 수강생은 자신들이 살고 있는 지역이고 또 앞으로 활동할 지역에 대한 보다 깊은 이해를 갖게 될 것이며, 담당 교수진과 수강생들이 수업 중 행한 작업의 결과물은 서울의 건축과 도시에 대한 중요한 기록으로 정리될 것이다.
As the capital of Korea from the 14th century, Seoul has been a center of architectural culture. Based on the knowledge of architecture and urban context of Seoul, the lecture aims to enhance the spatial understanding of each region and their response to the architecture of the urban aspects. The lecture progresses with the participation of students and the faculty of the department of architecture and the series of field trips to the core areas such as Bukchon, Yongsan, Seongbuk-dong, Yeouido, Jamsil and Gangnam after the overall plan and introduction of the lecturer, respectively. Through this, students will have a deeper understanding of the area they live in and work in the future. The result done by the faculty and students will be organized as an important record of Seoul's architecture and urbanism.
